Providing English classes for grade 11 students of Mahmud Ladies College Kalmunai.
➢ Introduction.
English is one of the most powerful important languages in the world which is used as the first language in many countries. Even in countries where English is not native language, they use for business and tourism. English is known as the international language as well as business language. Knowing English increases people’s professional value of getting good jobs in either home country or foreign country. English consist of 4 skills, namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary, structure, pronunciation and spellings are taught in order to stimulate above 4 skills which are essential to approach the English language.
In that sense, students are expected to learn four English skills equally and also the English teacher is expected to teach every skill in the same way. In fact, there are many problems are found of grade 11 students of Mahmud Ladies College Kalmunai by the researcher. This is to say those students are having very poor knowledge in the four skills of English which I mentioned above. Mahmud Ladies College is one of the leading schools situated in Kalmunai zone which is maintaining Monolingual and bilingual education system parallelly. Even if there is a resourceful school school, students are getting fail to speak and understand the English language because of their lack of knowledge in English.
Therefore, we had a decision to conduct an extra English classes for the grade 11 students of Mahmud Ladies College Kalmunai. As a result we commenced the English classes on the date of 20th September 2019 in the weekends.
➢ Why
The whole purpose of commencing this extra classes in English is improving the grade 11 students of Mahmud Ladies College speaking, Writing, Listening and speaking skills in English.
➢ Objectives
I. To improve their English knowledge from poor into high level. II. To get good marks or results in their final GCE Ordinary Level Examination on English. III. To increase the communication skills among them. IV. To find out the aspects affecting the achievements of students in the subject of English.
➢ Procedures
- Discussing with my group members regards this extra classes.
- Collecting money from the group members for the classroom facilities and any other hospitalities of this project.
- Devising the academic activities and share it to the group members as per their capacity.
- Collecting fund to develop the classroom arrangements from the wealthiest person in the town.
- Before commencing the each class, give some motivational inspiration for the students to boost their energy and make their mind fresh.
- Before ending the specific unit, conduct the unit test to test their knowledge to measure how have they improved in four skills of. English.

➢ Out comes
- Afterward of this project, grade 11 students of Mahmud Ladies College are much improved in the four skills of Writing, Listening, Reading and Speaking.
- They can easily understand the topics on the tutes which provide during the class times.
- In the unit tests, they earn more than 70 marks than they earned already in their School examinations.
- Now a days they have become eligible to lead the classes under a leader in the absent of teachers. (We)
- Because of this improvement they have become a member of Gavel club which is conducted by the Advanced Level students of Mahmud Ladies College who study in English medium.
- More than this all, they participate in the English day competitions, something like. Essay writing, oratorical, poem and dictation.
➢ Conclusion
In summary I would like to point out something here. All the students in this world have their own styles in their own ways. Nobody is weak here from the students. But they make mistakes in express their skills, talents and abilities in practice. Because they give their concentration on the other sides mostly boys than the girls. Because of this reason they miss their precious prospects as long as they study. But through the great motivational inspiration we can get them involved into the academic activities and make their future succeed how as my team and I have done. Because “Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders “.
